Raul Jimenez feels Wolves need to take the positives from their Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers as the team showed a lot of heart to come from behind to claim a point.
The Mexican netted from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the game to ensure Wolves would not fall to defeat in their first game of the campaign, marking his return to the club following three years away.
With Jimenez being serenaded by the Molineux crowd throughout the game, following a kind donation of scarves to supporters in the South Bank from him and his fiancée Daniela, he was pleased to have repaid the fans for their support during the last eight years.
On scoring his first goal since returning to Wolves
“It’s really, really good to be back, with our first game of the Championship and scoring. It’s not the result we wanted and what we worked for, but the Championship is going to be like this.
“We need to work hard to prepare better in the next game and continue going.”

On the love between him and the fans
“Since I arrived eight years ago to the club, the five years I spent here, the three years that I was away, I always felt that love. I try to give my best every game and I wanted to pay them back a little bit for what they have given to me and my family.
“It’s all about giving back some of that love that they give me every time. Even when I was not part of the club, they showed me that love that they have for me. It was about being able to pay back that big love that they have for me.”
On missed chances in the first half
“We need to keep improving being clinical in front of goal. We need to improve that last pass, that last action and keep improving on that and we need to work.
“But this is the start of the season and although we dropped two points in this game, we know we have room to improve and we need to continue growing as a team, to learn better what the gaffer wants from every one of us, and keep going.”
On equalising in added time
“I felt like the goal was going to come because since the first minute, we went looking for the win. We were on the front foot in every moment of the game, but sometimes football is like this.
“We conceded the second goal and then we have to go against all of them behind, trying just to counterattack. We needed to be more patient and not lose their organisation.
“But at the end, we did this much more, because we had a lot of heart. Although we didn’t play really well, football is like this, and we need to see the game as we won one point. We need to continue.”
