Wolves draw Peixoto's first pre-season match

Estoril 0 Wolves 0

Wolves’ first outing of pre-season under Cesar Peixoto ended in a goalless draw with Liga Portugal side Estoril, behind closed doors at the Estadio da Nora.

The first look of a Wolves side under the new head coach was a positive one, with early chances coming through a saved Tawanda Chirewa header and a blocked Rodrigo Gomes drive for an Old Gold side debuting their 150th anniversary kit.

A high press was the theme of the first 45 minutes and led to a chance for Chirewa, fed by Mateus Mane, but his shot was saved by the Estoril stopper, while Marshall Munetsi and Gomes, assisted by Fer Lopez, both had goalbound efforts blocked closer to the break.

The second period brought fewer chances, with Munetsi unable to get a shot away after good footwork from Mane, and having tweaked his defence at the break, Peixoto replaced the remaining starters on the hour, giving everyone substantial minutes on the pitch.

Alfie Brooks did make a strong reaction save from an Estoril free-kick – one of few openings for the Portuguese side, but neither could force a winner on matchday one of pre-season.

Wolves | Gracey (Brooks 45), Trippier (Lima 60), Djiga (Lonwijk 60), Toti (Mosquera 45), H Bueno (Tchatchoua 45), Andre (Traore 60), Munetsi (Doyle 60), Lopez (Edozie 60), R Gomes (Gonzalez 60), Mane (Said 60), Chirewa (Chiwome 60).
