Nelson Semedo and Toti were both in action on Thursday evening, as the March internationals got underway for Wolves’ contingent.
The Old Gold defensive duo helped Portugal to a comfortable friendly victory over Sweden, while Tom King was part of the matchday squad as Wales moved to within one game of Euro 2024.
Semedo & Toti | Portugal 5-2 Sweden
With Portugal already qualified for the summer’s tournament, March presented two friendly matches to prepare for Germany and Roberto Martinez split his camp for their clashes with Sweden and Slovenia. Wolves’ Semedo and Toti were part of the group to face Sweden on Thursday evening and they did their job impressively. Semedo was handed a start, in what was his 28th international appearance, and he laid on assists for Bruno Fernandes and Goncalo Ramos in an impressive 5-2 victory. He was joined by Toti at half-time, with the Wolves man replacing Nuno Mendes and playing at left-back for the second 45. Jose Sa remained on the bench and while Semedo and Toti now depart the camp, alongside a host of other teammates, Sa will stay for the Slovenia match on Tuesday, hoping to add to his one cap.
King | Wales 4-1 Finland
Wales convincingly booked their place in the play-off final for a place at Euro 2024 on Thursday evening, seeing off Finland in Cardiff. Rob Page’s side scored after three minutes, which set the tone for a lively night in the capital, which Wolves’ King was on the bench for. 2-1 at half-time became 3-1 quickly after and Dan James wrapped up the win late on. Attention now turns to another night at the Cardiff City Stadium, as Poland visit on Tuesday, having beaten Estonia 5-1 last night. If Wales win, they’ll be heading to a third successive European Championship.
