Semedo | 'We still have a lot more to achieve'

Despite having what would have been his second Premier League goal taken away on Saturday, Nelson Semedo insisted he did not mind as he was just proud to have had an impact on achieving a hard-fought three points for Wolves.

The right-back’s second-half match-winning shot took a heavy deflection off Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney on its way past Bernd Leno, setting up jubilant scenes at Molineux as the team claimed victory despite the injury set-backs, and Semedo believes the game was a perfect example of the spirit and togetherness in the Old Gold camp.

On battling to three points

“It means a lot and it shows that we have a group of 22/23 players who can play. Everybody who came in did their job and I’m proud of them.

“I’m proud of my team because we’ve got important players out, but we’ve got other important players coming in now and we’re going to do our best with the guys we have.”

On his match-winning impact

“It doesn’t matter [if it’s recorded as an own goal]. I won the game, we won the game, so it doesn’t matter if it’s me who scored the goal or not, we got the second goal which won the game and it gave us the three points.

“It’s ok. I don’t mind. All I care about is the three points. It could have been offside, so I’m just happy to stick with the three points.”

On Lemina’s performance

“He was very good. Mario, he does everything. He’s a very important player for us. He’s a very important player in the dressing room as well.

“I have massive respect for him. He played as a winger today, he played as a striker, he did a little bit at left-back as well, so he’s a top player.”

On Wolves being a surprise package

“I don’t think we lost quality [in the summer]. We lost very good players, they were very good players, but we’ve showed that the players we have here can play very good football.

“We’re winning a lot of matches, we’ve been practicing a lot and Gary O’Neil has brought a good style of football as well. So, we’re doing well, but we’ve got to go game by game.

“Of course, we’re now on 41 points but we still have a lot more to achieve, so we have to keep going.”
