Kilman | 'It’s gutting – really tough to take'

Maximilian Kilman described the dressing room as “gutted” after Wolves suffered defeat nine minutes into added time against Manchester United.

The hosts had equalised in the 95th minute through Pedro Neto, after fighting back from 3-1 down thanks to Kilman’s second goal of the season. However, United claimed the points right at the death, and the captain has called on the Old Gold to get back into their good habits after an uncharacteristic defensive performance.

On losing late on

“It’s gutting to be honest, really, really tough to take. We’re gutted. First half we weren’t great, but in the second half we showed a lot of character to get back into the game and we could have got something.

“We showed so much character to get back into the game and we showed we could compete with Man United, but it was really tough to take. We need to get our heads down and make sure we’re ready for the next game.”

On the reliance on show

“That’s how we’ve been all season and it’s something we want to take from. We’ve got so much quality in the team, and we want to keep progressing and make sure we do our best.

“We had to keep pushing, keep sticking to our game plan and be a bit more aggressive. I think we showed it but unfortunately, we didn’t come away with anything from the game.

“When we got the first goal back, we knew we had to keep pushing and maybe get back into the game and we did. We were unfortunate at the end and we need to make sure we don’t let that affect us for the next game and make sure we’re 100 per cent ready for the next one.”

On taking the positives from it

“You can take a lot of positives from the second half and the manager said after the game that we need to make sure we keep at it and come in on Sunday trying to do the same.

“It’s crucial that from that second half we take all the positives. The first half there’s a lot to work on and we need to make sure we do the right things and get into good habits again.”
