Toti | Scoring first Wolves goal 'an amazing feeling'

With his goal securing all three points against Aston Villa on derby day to send Wolves to the 40-point mark in the Premier League, Toti was unable to put into words the feeling of notching his first goal for the club.

The defender has been a revelation after switching from centre-back to left-back under Julen Lopetegui in recent months, and he marked an impressive performance with his debut goal for Wolves, acknowledging the three points against Villa, which all-but secured his side’s premier League safety, was the perfect response to last weekend’s drubbing at the Amex.

On a first goal in gold and black

“I have no words to describe how it feels to score my first goal for Wolves in the Premier League. It’s an amazing feeling, especially playing in this derby and scoring the winning goal, it’s amazing. I’m proud of what we did and it’s special from the team.

“I was speechless. I’ve been waiting for this moment, so I’m really happy and proud that it’s finally happened. I am very grateful for my teammates because they’ve been helping me a lot and we’ve been through a lot together, so this is an amazing feeling.”

On opening the scoring from a corner

“We’ve been trying this on the training ground and we knew everyone has these kinds of opportunities, so it’s not been a big surprise for us.

“We’ve been training well in training and you have to bring it to the match, this is what we want to do. We’re happy and I’m happy to have scored this goal.”

On securing the three points

“We know they were strong because they’ve been playing very well, and we knew that since the moment we scored the goal, they would come with everything. We knew we had to stay calm, defend well at the back, and we did a good job.”

On the support of the Wolves fans

“Everybody knew the importance of this game, especially the importance for the fans, and this was an important part for us in trying to win this game.

“The fans are the most important point for us, and the support that they gave us from the beginning of match, and even during the warm-up, it’s really important for us. They really helped push us through this match from the beginning until the end and we really needed that support, so it’s an important win for us.”

On bouncing back from Brighton defeat

“It feels amazing. We’ve been working for these kinds of things and taking it game by game every game. We knew we needed to give a good response, especially after the last match, and I think we did the perfect response for this match.

“We’ve been through ups and downs, but this is football. It’s the Premier League and this happens, but we just needed to be together and of course the coach was a really important part for us. Inside of the dressing room, he completely changed it. Everybody has been helping each other, we’ve all been fighting for each other and when you have this you get these kinds of results like today.”
