Neves | Make Tuesday a 'special' Molineux night

Ruben Neves was left ruing missed opportunities against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon as Wolves were unable to secure three points in their quest to avoid Premier League relegation.

Having made his return to the side following a two-match suspension as a second-half substitute at the King Power Stadium, the captain felt his side should have made more of their chances against the Foxes. But with a game in just three days’ time against Crystal Palace, Neves is calling for the Wolves supporters’ help to make Tuesday another ‘special’ night under the Molineux lights.

On controlling the opening stages

“It’s true, we had most of the control in the first-half, and then in the second-half, we knew they were going to try to press. They were playing at home, they needed the win against us, but maybe they pressed us a little bit more in the second-half and we struggled to have the ball and to press them.

“That was the difference. In the second-half, we needed to take control of the game and press high as we were doing in the first-half. But after their second goal we tried to do it, we had a few chances to score, we didn’t score and this is football.

“We need to do better. It’s a hard pitch to come to, it’s a hard pitch to play on, but we played against a fantastic team and it will be a battle until the end.”

On missed opportunities

“We had a few chances, I had a few free-kicks, but it was a fantastic save from the goalkeeper, but we had other fantastic chances too, Toti’s header was a fantastic chance as well, and we still had a lot of chances to score but we didn’t. This is football.

“I think we had more chances than them and the difference is they scored and we didn’t.”

On fighting until the end of the season

“It will be a big battle until the end because there are a lot of fantastic teams all fighting for the same thing. We want to go into every game thinking the same thing – we want to win every single game, every single game like a final.

“We lost a final today, but we have another one in three days, so we have to prepare ourselves to do well at home and try to win the three points.”

On switching focus to Tuesday night

“Spirit is really good, as always. Everyone is fighting for the same thing and we are really motivated to achieve our aim and it’s a big game on Tuesday against a big team again in Palace

“They have fantastic players, but I hope we will make it a special night at Molineux again.”
