Lemina | 'It's going to be an amazing team'

Mario Lemina believes when this Wolves group truly gels, it’s going to be an “amazing team”.

The midfielder has joined forces with Joao Gomes in the midfield for back-to-back victories over Chelsea and Brentford, which have pulled Wolves away from relegation troubles in the Premier League. Having struck up an instant connection with the Molineux faithful following his arrival from Nice, Lemina is thriving in his third spell in English football and is looking forward to the future in old gold.

On a much-needed win

“It’s a good feeling, really great. We enjoyed the game, we put them under pressure all the time, we tried to finish all the actions that we had, and that’s key, I think. If we don’t lose the ball in the middle, we don’t get counter attacked. They were feeling the pressure we put on them, and I think we deserved it.

“For me, there’s no timings to score, we just take the moments. Matheus [Nunes] did a really good run on the side, he crossed back, and everything went well for us. I think that in the whole game, in all parts of the game, we deserved to win.”

On building for the future

“A lot of things have changed since I’ve arrived and we are working to stay in the Premier League, but also to have a base for the next year. We’re not going to give up now, or maybe if we win the next game, we’re not going to give up. We’re going to do everything until the last game to bring something for next year. That’s the most important for us.

“I’m really happy because the Premier League is the best league, I’m not going to lie. It’s a really good league, and I’m around such good players. When the chemistry is going to be on, it’s going to be an amazing team. The club is really good and now we just need to get this chemistry between us to be the team that we want to be.”

On his connection with the fans

“I really like it, I enjoy it, and it makes me get the second wave all the time. It’s really good, all the players need this kind of things, and I’m going to fight until the end, that’s what I’m going to do.”

On playing with Gomes in midfield

“When I see Joao play, I see me when I was younger. I really enjoy playing with him, he’s really clever, he’s really calm with the ball, but he fights a lot and that’s what I really like. In the training, we all know the quality of Joao and he deserved to play this kind of game, he deserved to play good, to enjoy the moments and he did really well.”

On Costa getting his goal

“He’s a really hard worker. He gives us his experience every time on the pitch and speaks to us a lot. You see the commitment he has all the time he plays, and he deserved it.

“We all know what he did in football, and I think the defensive opponents are scared by him a little bit, because he’s a big character and they know what he did already. That’s really important to us, to feel that striker which puts the defence under pressure. He did really well today, and he helps us a lot.

“He’s a funny character, funny guy – a big joker. At the same time, he’s a really hard worker. He could just be an old man, but he’s never doing that. He’s just working really hard and putting all the players under pressure all the time in training, and that’s really good for us.”
