Internationals | Euro 2024 qualification begins

Nine members of Julen Lopetegui’s squad have departed Compton Park for international duty, with qualification for Euro 2024 beginning for the European representatives.

Jose Sa, Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes have been named in Roberto Martinez’s first Portugal squad, as they begin qualification against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg on Thursday and Sunday.

The Republic of Ireland start their campaign against France on Monday, after a friendly with Latvia in Cork, and Nathan Collins has been called up for the camp.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has been selected by Algeria for the first time and they play Niger home and away in African Cup of Nations qualification, having won their opening two games.

Mexico are competing in the CONCACAF Nations League and Raul Jimenez has linked up with his country for fixtures against Suriname and Jamaica, who have Dexter Lembikisa in their squad.

Joao Gomes have been named in the senior Brazil squad for the first time and could make his debut in a friendly against Morocco on Saturday.

Pedro Neto is back with the Portugal under-21 squad for friendlies with Romania and Norway, in preparation for the European Under-21 Championship in the summer.

Joe Hodge is also on international duty with Republic of Ireland’s under-21s who face Iceland in Cork on Sunday.

Although initially called up by South Korea, Hee Chan Hwang has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
