Lopetegui’s coaching staff confirmed

Julen Lopetegui’s coaching staff has now been finalised, with Tony Roberts and Borja De Alba Alonso completing his support team.

Six members of the Spaniard’s staff were confirmed last month and now goalkeeping coach Roberts and fitness coach Alonso complete Lopetegui’s backroom team.

Roberts remains at the club, having joined in the summer of 2021, and has linked back up with the group following Wales’ World Cup campaign in Qatar, where he was on Rob Page’s backroom team.

Meanwhile, Alonso spent five years at Sevilla, with his arrival preceding Lopetegui’s, but the Spaniard now brings him to Wolverhampton for his second club role, having worked as a professor earlier in his career.

On the pair, Lopetegui said: “Tony will stay with us. He’s experienced, he’s a positive man, and has a good energy. I want this type of person around for sure. We also have another fitness coach Borja De Alba Alonso who has joined us on our return to Wolverhampton.”

Pablo Sanz (assistant head coach), Juan Peinado (assistant coach), Oscar Caro (fitness coach), Edu Rubio (first-team coach), Fran Garagarza (technical advisor) and Daniel Lopetegui (performance analyst) complete Lopetegui’s team, and the Spaniard believes he has the right mix of experience and skills.

“We have Pablo Sanz as my first assistant, Juan Peinado my second assistant and Oscar Caro our fitness coach. Edu worked in England, and we became friends ten years ago, he’ll help us here and knows the culture.

“After, we have Daniel my son and Fran Garagarza, they are going to help the scouting area, working together to have the best information on players.”
