Neves excited for Costa impact

Wolves captain Ruben Neves is looking forward to having new signing Diego Costa on the pitch, helping his new side in the near future.

Bruno Lage hinted that the Spanish striker, whose signing at Molineux was confirmed last week, could be fit to feature in the squad against West Ham United after the international break. It’s news Neves welcomes, with the Portuguese being impressed by the club’s new striker in training, and once he’s fit, he has no doubt the quality for the one-time Premier League winner can bring to Wolves on and off the pitch.

On Costa coming soon

“Everyone knows what he can give to the team. He’s very aggressive, he’s a really good striker, he can score and help the team defend as well. We are waiting for him to be fit and help the team as much as he can, because he’s a great player, a great person, he settled down really well here, so we are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch.”

On a difficult afternoon against City

“We had a plan to stick to, but at the beginning of the game we conceded the goal, so everything went harder for us, and of course the red card. When you play against this kind of team like Man City, who manage the ball so well, it’s really hard to play against them when you concede in the first minute.

“I think we reacted well, even with ten men. I think the start of the second-half was very good for us. We had the ball and put them under pressure, then it was just the third goal, and they controlled the game.”

On the positives and moving on

“I think after the red card we reacted really well. We had the ball, which against a team like City isn’t easy. We’re just looking forward to the next one. We’ll work and try to improve every single detail we can.”

On coming up against Haaland

“He’s one of the best strikers in the world, everybody knows that – it’s really hard to play against him, but the game changed completely after the second goal and the red card. They were really patient with the ball, so they didn’t look to Haaland too much, they were winning 2-0 and were controlled the game with the ball.

“They played in the middle of the week, so were controlling the game to not get tired early. It was a different game, but of course one of the best strikers in the world at the moment.”
