Podence | 'We can dream to win it'

Daniel Podence is dreaming big after his two goals helped Wolves into the next round of the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.

The Portuguese scored either side of a Nelson Semedo strike to see Wolves past Sheffield United and now a clash with fellow Premier League side Norwich City now awaits in the next round. Podence has enjoyed cup glory earlier in his career in Portugal and is dreaming of repeating his success in old gold, after whetting his appetite during victory in round three.

On the start of a hopeful cup run

“It’s a dream playing in this kind of competition, because as we all know it’s difficult to reach the top three, top four in the league, but we want to, and in this kind of competition, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, we can dream to win it because each game is one final, so we can dream about it. In Portugal I’ve won two or three with Sporting and Moreirense, I know how to do it, and I dream we can do it here.”

On a solid team performance

“It was a great game, for myself, for every member of the team. We prepared very well for the game, it was against a Championship team, but against a very difficult team to beat. We know them from last year, from two years ago, they are a very tough team to play.

“They defend very well, they attack with everyone, so we had some difficulties at the beginning of the game, but we found the way to score the first and managed the game well, and scored the second and third and played very well.”

On scoring in the cup

“I think the cup games are special games for me. I have to push it into the Premier League games – for me, it doesn’t matter if it’s a cup or Premier League game. I want to enter the pitch to score and assist every game – sometimes the team help me, sometimes I help the team, so as soon as I get into the pitch, I want to make goals, assist, and be happy.”

On defending as a team

“We prepared very well during the week, so in the game it’s the test when we see if we prepared well or not, and I think in the last 10 or 15 games we had a lot of clean sheets and I think it’s the work of every member of the team, since the strikers Raul and Fabio, the wingers, midfielders and, of course the defence, are playing very well.

“I speak for myself and I think the strikers, we are very confident when we are defending because we know they are prepared to give their life for the team. We are happy to have the defenders to play with us.”
