Neves | On an important point, his header and becoming consistent

Ruben Neves has been making a conscious effort to get in the box more in recent weeks, so was delighted to get on the end of Pedro Neto’s cross on Saturday night.

The Portuguese guided home his first header in a Wolves shirt to earn his side an important point at St James’ Park, although he couldn’t be totally satisfied with a draw. After an improved second-half, Neves believed Wolves did enough to win the game against Newcastle United, but was pleased with the growing consistency the team are showing, in both results and unbeaten matches.

On taking a point

“Well, it was not the result that we wanted. We always try to get the three points, I think we conceded a goal in a moment that we were in the game more than them, we were controlling the game, and we conceded which was a bad moment for us.

“We started the second-half well, then we conceded the goal in the second phase of a set piece – we need to work on it and improve. But I think we reacted well. To be honest, I think we did a great second-half and deserved a little bit more, but it’s a hard pitch to play and they are a very good team, so a draw is a draw.”

On his first headed goal for Wolves

“I had a lot of space inside the box because their centre halves were worried about Willian [Jose], so I saw the space behind him, I went for it and it was a great cross from [Pedro] Neto.

“I was looking for the ball in front, the ball was a little bit behind me, but I tried my best to put the ball in the goal and fortunately I helped the team with a goal.

“It’s like I always say, it’s about improving and trying to help the team with everything I can. I think I’ve been going a little bit further on the pitch in the last games and I scored and helped the team to get the draw and it was an important point.”

On Saiss’ incredible clearance

“It was like a goal for us, an important tackle he did. It’s our job. Our job is to try to help the team with everything and it was an important moment for us because we were in our best moment in the game and he didn’t allow them to score the second goal, which gave us strength to go further.”

On Dubravka denying Silva

“I was talking to the guys in the dressing room, I think he will save one in ten of them because it was really hard, so congratulations to their goalkeeper.”

On gaining consistency

“We need to be consistent. In a league like this, the team who can more consistent will be up in the table. Everyone can win the games, there are no favourites to win, so being consistent is very important every team. We are in a better moment than we were in the past, so we want to keep going, still improve our game, and try to win every single game.”
