Nuno: There is still a lot to play for

Nuno Espirito Santo was pleased with the performance of his players on Wednesday night despite seeing his Wolves side fall to a last gasp Burnley equaliser at Turf Moor.

Raul Jimenez looked to have secured all three points when his stunning volleyed effort beat Nick Pope with 15 minutes remaining, but Chris Wood’s penalty saw the hosts snatch a draw.

Although positive about the efforts of his players in a game which they controlled a lot of possession, the Wolves head coach knows there are still improvements to be made.

On 95th minute penalty decision

“I didn’t see the images. I haven’t seen the images yet so there’s no point talking about that.”

On late heartbreak at Turf Moor

“It was a close match. Honestly, we played good, we controlled the game, we pressed high, we didn’t allow our opponent to feel comfortable.

“The boys worked hard, played the game well, we had control of the game and created a lot of chances. In the first-half, we put in a lot of crosses which needed a better touch.

“It was a good goal [from Jimenez], but there were still situations that we should have finished better. There are things that we have to look at and improve, but the game was well played.”

On his team’s workrate

“Very pleased, very pleased. We were organised, we defended well, we pressed high and made Burnley feel uncomfortable.

“When we had the ball, we always had the feeling of danger, with our combinations, our talents. In the second-half, we arrived well, and after that we controlled well until the moment at the end. But it was a good game.”

On dropping last-minute points

“Of course, it’s disappointing. At the end, they started putting balls in the box, which is always hard to defend, but we should deal with that situation. It’s something that we will look at because the final moments of the game require focus and requires us to stay in the game.

“It’s always tough, but this is football, this is the game, and we’ll go again in a couple of days. We now have time to recover and then prepare well for the next one.”

On everything to play for

“We will prepare like always and the approach remains the same. It doesn’t matter the table. Let’s see at the end what happens.

“What it more important is that the team is improving and we look forwards for the next games. There is still a lot to play for.

“We have to stay focus, forget about this moment that has upset us, and go again. We go again.”
