Nuno keen to learn from mistakes

Nuno Espirito Santo insists Wolves must use Saturday’s defeat to Arsenal as part of their building process.

Wolves lost for the first time since the restart, conceding a goal in each half and failing to break down the Gunners at Molineux. However, rather than being downbeat, Nuno remained positive and wants Wolves to learn from their mistakes quickly.

On the defeat

“The first-half was balanced, I think both teams were organised. Good possession, not too many chances, with the exception of one moment where was lost organisation and focus, and Arsenal scored.

“The second-half was better, we started pressing, putting Arsenal deeper into the pitch. We created chances and had a moment where we could go for the draw, but we know as the game goes by, it becomes dangerous, on the counter attack Arsenal have good players.

“There was a lot of things that didn’t happen. We should do better, but this is the game of football, the result happen, it’s a consequence of how we do things. It wasn’t one of the best games, but the work was there, let’s go for the next one.”

On Arsenal’s first goal

“Mistakes happen, that’s what we have to look at and solve. It was a moment of no concentration and we allowed Arsenal to decide, but that doesn’t take away the good things we’ve been doing on our defensive process. We have to bounce back and reinvent ourselves.”

On a better second-half

“We had spells where we had good options to score. The goal was there, we were looking for it, trying to put players with fresh legs to unbalance Arsenal. After the second goal it became much harder.

“We must stay in the game, Arsenal didn’t have too many chances, we allowed them to have moments. This is the first step we have to look at for the next one, back to our clean sheet and process.”

On Traore’s miss

“Of course, it’s important [to take chances], but at the same time we try not to concede those opportunities, the game has both kinds, the definition of the game was in both boxes. Today we were not as clinical as we should be.”

On not looking at other results

“It doesn’t change how we see things, other results and the table is not what guides us. What guides us is how we did things today, we wanted to do things we weren’t able to do. Credit to Arsenal, but we should move the ball faster, but don’t focus on anything else, only focus on the how we want to do things and prepare for the next challenge, a tough, tough one.”

On continuing to build

“It’s a credit to the building process we’ve been through since the beginning and it’s never finished. This is the way to bounce back, to become again on Wednesday better, this is how we do things. Our approach is always the same, no matter who we play. This how we build and be able to compete.

“What was missing today, a little bit more urgency at certain points. There was a moment that was the definition, if we were going to draw and push for the last moments of the game, but it didn’t happen.”
