Coady: 'We need to start games better'

Conor Coady says Wolves are determined to start games better and not require comebacks on a regular basis.

Wolves have conceded first in the previous seven Premier League games and character has been needed to keep results ticking over. Of those seven games, three have been completely turned around into victories, and one into a draw, showing the resilience of Nuno Espirito Santo’s group, but the captain wants stronger starts to games, on the back of another dramatic turnaround on Saturday.

On another game of two halves

“We don’t want to [keep coming from behind]. We need to start better as a team. We’re giving cheap goals away too easily and it’s something we need to look at and address. We don’t want to be giving ourselves mountains to climb like we did on Saturday, but it was fantastic character from the team to come back the way we did.

“We didn’t do what the manager said before the game, we need to make sure we’re listening and taking his ideas into the game. First-half, we were too far away from each other, we were a little bit passive which was disappointing, but we can take the positives from the game - we’ve won the game, a Premier League game at a tough place to come.”

On this team’s character

“We’ve done it a few times this season [come from behind]. It’s something we like to stick to, we like to believe as much as possible. It was a massive second-half, the manager spoke, his ideas are fantastic, so we listen to him. He brought Adama inside and I thought he was outstanding. It’s a massive victory for us. It was needed.”

On Neto’s goal counting

“It was amazing. It’s nothing more than he deserves, he’s been outstanding since he came into the team. He works hard every single day and is a brilliant lad. He brings a personality to the dressing room, which is brilliant to see, he deserved it more than anyone, he’s been absolutely fantastic for us.

“He’s 19 and incredible. The way you see him training, he works hard every single day and does everything that’s asked of him. He’s had a couple disallowed, but he finds himself in positions to hurt the other teams and he’s a brilliant person to have around the place.”

On Jimenez winning the game

“He’s amazing. He’s an amazing footballer and an amazing person to have around. He’s someone we love having here, so it’s important we keep helping him as much as possible, because you saw with his goals on Saturday, how he’s on fire in the box, he’s a fantastic footballer.”
