Neves: 'We must win these kinds of games'

Ruben Neves felt Wolves missed an opportunity to take all three points from Arsenal in his 100th game in gold and black on Saturday, despite the players fighting back from one goal down to earn a deserved draw.

The midfielder, who almost marked his milestone appearance with a goal but was denied on several occasions by Gunners’ keeper Bernd Leno, felt if one of the sides deserved to win the game, it was Wolves, but understands the players need to do more to force the game in their favour when they have chances in front of goal.

On taking a point from the Emirates

“It was a good game against a tough team. Arsenal is one of the big teams in England and we knew that before the game.

“I think we stuck really well to the game plan, controlling with the ball, having some chances, but after 15 minutes they took a little bit of control with the ball and they scored. After that we had to go on the front foot to try to get the draw.

“I think the half-time was good for us as we started really well again in the second-half, pressing really high. I had some chances and fortunately we scored.”

On a missed opportunity

“We go out of with a feeling that we should win the game, to be honest. To create a lot of chances against a team like Arsenal is really difficult, and we did it, but to make the next step we have to score.

“We should have won that game, I think we deserved it, but you have to keep on working to do this step forward and start winning these kinds of games.

“When we play well and when we have these kinds of chances, we must win it, and if one team deserved the win today it was our team.”

On long-range efforts testing Leno

“I have to try. I had some chances to shoot, unfortunately I didn’t score today, but I’ll keep on going, trying to help the team.

“The most important is that we have to get wins, we have to get back the winning feeling, and I think we will do that.”

On fighting back from behind

“It’s all about staying in the game. We don’t want to concede goals, but sometimes it happens, it’s football, but it’s all about staying in the game every time.

“We know we have a team to create chances, and we will have chances to score as well, so it’s all about that – keep the shape, keep the control of the game, because most of the times we will have chances to score as well.”

On Europa League action returning to Molineux

“It’s another competition but we will have the same feeling; try to win, compete to get the three points because it’s important for us.

“Like all of us have said before, it doesn’t matter the competition, it doesn’t matter the opponent, we always want to win every game.”
