Enjoy these moments, says Coady

Wolves must savour the memorable experiences the past week has provided, says captain Conor Coady.

In the space of four days, Wolves won in Besiktas to breathe new life into their Europa League campaign, before returning home and recovering in time to topple the Premier League champions on Sunday. Victory at Manchester City was the reward for a sensational performance at the Eithad Stadium, full of organisation, commitment and, crucially, chances on the break, two of which Adama Traore put away to claim the three points.

On enjoying the occasion

We all need to enjoy this day, and enjoy the week, because the week has been amazing, but I think the way the boys played, the way they did things, the way we stuck to our task, and our jobs, in terms of how we want to play as a team, was amazing.

“We could have had a couple more, but I just think the way we stuck together, you take away the chances, we create chances, we’ve got some good players going forward, but I think it was important we stuck together.

“We said before the game we didn’t want to sit on the edge of our own box because it would only become a matter of time when Manchester City scored, so it was important we were brave, we stepped up at every opportunity, and we did, we stuck together and when you’ve got the pace on the counter attack with Adama, Raul and Cutrone you’re going to create chances.”

On brave defending

When you come to a place like this, against a world class football team, world class manager, world class players, I think it’s important you’re brave, it’s as simple as that. You try and impose your way of playing on the game and I think you saw that.

“We stuck together, we defended really well in terms of limiting their chances as much as we possibly could and then created our own as well, so I think that was important and big factor before the game that we said as well. They had a couple of chances, but we defended tight, we defended together and everybody did their jobs.”

On Traore’s goal

“They were all similar finishes, the one at West Ham’s similar as well. We know what Adama brings to this football club, we’ve got total confidence in his ability, his pace, his power and his finishing, he’s a fantastic footballer.

“He works hard every single day in training, you want to see him, he’s a beast to be honest with you, but we know what he brings to this football club and it’s brilliant to have him on board, it really is.”
