Jimenez set up the decisive goal of the final by playing a delightful back heeled pass on the edge of the American box to Jonathan Dos Santos who curled his effort into the top corner off the underside of the crossbar.
After scoring in both the quarter-final and semi-final to book his team’s place in the showpiece match of the tournament and take his own goal tally to five for the competition, Jimenez returns to Molineux with the Golden Ball award after being named as the best player of the 2019 Gold Cup.
Finishing as the tournament’s joint-second best goalscorer, Jimenez also had numerous assists to his name as he helped guide his country to their eighth Gold Cup title.
Elsewhere this week, Romain Saiss and Morocco fell out of the African Cup of Nations following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Benin.
Saiss was one of the Atlas Lions’ best players during the group stages of the competition, playing in his usual role of centre-back for his country and helping Morocco reach the knockout stages without conceding a goal.
But the versatile Wolves man could only watch as his side came up short on spot kicks to Benin in the Round of 16, shortening his expected stay in Egypt.
