Doherty provided the cross for Leander Dendoncker’s volleyed winner as Wolves secured a deserved victory in their final home game of the season.
The assist is the latest in a season-long catalogue of crucial attacking contributions from the Irish full-back, who has played in the top three divisions of English football with Wolves. After the game, he admitted that the pace of the change which has seen the club go from League One to the top seven of the Premier League in only five seasons has been astonishing.
On Wolves' progress
“I've seen it all - all the highs, all the lows, all the change - and I've managed to survive it so far! Considering where we were a few years ago, it’s pretty unbelievable how quickly the change has happened.
“We're always trying to get better and playing in European competition will show the progress of the club.”
On contribution to Wolves' successful season
“I'm not sure, but I think that's eight assists now. I probably didn't think that would be realistic at the start of the season, but I guess we didn't know what level of football we'd end up playing. It's always nice to contribute.
“I'm really happy with my contribution. I grew up dreaming of playing in the Premier League, so I'm happy to have played almost every game and to have contributed in the way that I have.”
On Wolves' current squad
“As a team we just seem to click. A lot of credit for that obviously goes to the management team, who make sure that everyone knows each other's game and we all know exactly what we have to do.
“There are no egos - everyone just gets their heads down and wants to play football. The way we play football just suits us all down to the ground.
“I think what we've achieved this year is a better achievement than last year, as the standard is higher, and the quality is a lot better. I think we've actually improved on the type of football we played last season.”
On his aims for the future with Wolves
“I just want to keep getting better and playing at the best level I can possibly play at, whether that's in Europe or in the Premier League again next season. I want to keep improving my performances and having better seasons.
“I've been here a long time and I love it here, so long may it continue. I have a lot of time left so who knows what the future holds - I could be here for my whole career, which would be nice.”
