Traore: I try my best whatever the position

Adama Traore was pleased he was able to showcase his ‘attributes’ against Cardiff City on Saturday as the forward was used as a right wing-back by Nuno Espirito Santo in the first half of the 2-0 victory.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez secured the three Premier League points, with Traore being reverted to his usual position after Jota was replaced by Matt Doherty shortly after half time.

Traore came off the pitch to a standing ovation after an action-packed performance in both the defensive and attacking side of the game.

On victory over Cardiff

“Everyone in the team worked so hard. We scored two goals and I’m happy with the performance.

“Maybe in the second half we should have finished the game off, but I think it’s been a very good game and I’m happy.

“I’m so happy for the fans. They support me every day, every time I play, so I need give them back with a performance.

“It’s been a long time since I last started, but I waited for my moment and when I had the chance to play, I showed them what I can do.”

On playing wing-back

“Whether I play on the wing, as a wing-back, or as a striker, I will do my best whatever the position. Playing the first half at wing-back it brought forwards my qualities, the speed and skills.

“I showed a good defensive performance in the first half and in the second I moved further forwards to help the team.

“This is what I did today, but I think I can give more. This is what I will work every day for - to give my best.”

On bouncing back from mid-week defeat

“Whatever team we are playing, we know in the Premier League it is tough. Every game is tough. The game against Huddersfield is in the past, so in the week we focused and worked on the errors, and today we had a very good game, but we need to keep going.

“After you lose it’s difficult, and you have to come with the right attitude to the next game because no one wants to lose the games.

“The team has great mentality, whatever the game, whoever it’s against, we go out with the same mentality, and I think today, every player on the pitch showed up.”

On upcoming matches

“It’s two big games [against Chelsea and Manchester United] and I think we will come out with the same mentality and go for the win.”
