Nuno outlines improvements ahead of Newcastle visit

“We have to get better” is the message Nuno Espirito Santo has been relaying to his Wolves players despite heading into tonight’s clash with Newcastle United on a three-game winning-streak in the Premier League.

Although Wolves have impressed in their wins over Leicester City, West Ham United and Everton, to head coach believes his side need to keep improving and have worked hard on these improvements during their warm weather training break in Marbella last week.

The team landed back in the UK yesterday evening and are fully focused on their task in hand against Newcastle at Molineux this evening.

On current league position

“We don’t look where we have to go, where we want to go, because the table doesn’t mean anything. The table can only create distractions and we avoid that.

“We stay focused on our day and routines day-to-day. Now the next game is against Newcastle and we have to be strong, home factor in the competition is one of the most important factors there is.

“We have achieved that in the last two home games and we want to do it again in the same way and, if possible, improve.

“There are a lot of things to improve, we have a lot of things to improve. We’ve just finished now working on things that we have to get better.

“The game is so complex in so many situations that there are always things to look at and invest time on.”

On squad competition

“There’s no starting 11. It’s a squad that has to manage all the competition during large periods of time.

“Everybody is important, everybody is inside of the shape. The way they wait for their chances is what pleases me more.

“The proof is when they come in and they have this moment in competition, the response is fantastic so that tells a lot of the mentality of the boys.

“They are not involved in every situation – it’s tough but I’m very, very pleased with them.”

On Joao Moutinho impact

“The experience that he has and the way he sees things, the way he knows the game - you can only achieve that through time.

“Joao gives that and, at the same time, is a fantastic guy. Very helpful for the young boys.

“Staying humble is one of the most important things but he enjoys it and he’s well integrated with the boys. We see them very well. And now, he’s giving that back.”
