The Wolves boss is expecting a difficult reception for his side when they travel to Merseyside to take on the Toffees on Saturday afternoon as Wolves aim to go one better than the 2-2 draw they achieved at Molineux back on the opening day of the Premier League season.
As well as giving his thoughts on Marco Silva's side, and noting the difficulty of playing at Goodison Park, Nuno spoke about his team’s current goal scoring form and why he believes Wolves’ small squad of players gives him an advantage.
On visit to Everton
“They are very strong. They have a strong squad, very talented players, a very good manager, a very tough stadium to go to; the atmosphere at Goodison Park is really tough for the opposing team and we expect a very difficult game tomorrow.
“My approach is simple, our approach is simple, it’s game-by-game. We are pleased, I think we can improve, but we’ll have a tough challenge in front of us. Nothing else matters.
“Both teams know each other, I think all the managers know each other very well because we are playing against them again and we have all the tools; analysis, games, almost everything to analyse and I know Everton is a very good team.”
On goal scoring form
“With more training sessions and more games, I believe the society between players improve. The goals are coming, it’s good, but I think it’s important we improved from the last game.
“We had a clean sheet, and this is the first goal that we have. Being well organised, compact, solid, really structured in defence, that allowed us to have options in our offensive movements and combinations and the society between the players that I think will improve through time.”
On advantages of small squad
“I believe when you have a small squad and a balanced squad you can work better, because everybody’s involved. Everybody’s involved in every squad list, so everybody’s ready.
“Not every club has the same idea. We started with 18 players – clearly Leo [Bonatini] and Kortney [Hause] didn’t have the minutes during the first half of the season, and we consider that this is the way we should go; with a small squad with the back-ups, giving every player a chance to have minutes.
“We truly believe this is the best way to improve and to become better. I’m not concerned, the only focus I have now that’s it’s finished is tomorrow and the game. We have a strong squad and try to find a good 11.
“I believe it can work out, but let’s see.”
On playing four games in ten days
“Let’s look at the next one tomorrow and then we’ll think about Tuesday, but I think we are well prepared.”
