Wolves' character pleases Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo was pleased with the character showed once again by his Wolves players to score another vital goal at the death, this time to earn a FA Cup replay with Shrewsbury Town.

Wolves found themselves 2-0 down going into the last 20 minutes at Montgomery Waters Meadow, but a goal from substitute Raul Jimenez and a 93rd minute Matt Doherty strike was enough to take the tie back to Molineux.

The Wolves head coach was pleased with the fight his players displayed in the final stretches of the game to comeback against the League One side.

On coming from behind

“This is the cup. You cannot switch off, you always have to be committed to it. I think the first half was good, we had chances to do it, but we conceded at the beginning of the second half and then the game went on to become difficult.

“In the end I think the effort of the boys in the last minutes was amazing. It allowed us to go to a second game and stay in the cup.

“I think it’s part of our character, to always believe, and a good finish can give you something. That was a reflection of the boys’ efforts today.

“It’s always important to fight until the referee finishes the game.”

On Shrewsbury test

“We knew that it was going to be tough. The pitch – it’s hard to play one touch because of the speed of the ball – they’re a well organised team with intensity, they’re aggressive, and it was a good game of football.

“We didn’t have many chances, but the way we concede, I think we need to look at and analyse, but Shrewsbury – it’s football. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the cup or which competition you are in, it’s a new game and it’s a new challenge for us.

“Well done to the boys today and let’s try and finish up in Molineux.”

On another late goal

“It’s something that we don’t want. We try to avoid this, but you have to fight to the end and now we have the next game in a very tight schedule.”

On Jimenez’s impact

“The idea was clear. I think he brought energy. It’s options. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don’t.”
