Whole squad involved in tactics, says Nuno

Going into Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth, Nuno Espirito Santo has difficult decisions to make regarding his starting line-up.

The head coach rotated his team for both the recent visit of Chelsea and the trip to Newcastle, with positive performances from many of his players in the Premier League victories.

Players who have been key to the team’s form may have to settle for a place on the bench this weekend as Eddie Howe’s side are welcomed to Molineux, but Nuno knows that it’s not just the starting 11 who have an impact on the match, but the entire squad.

On squad rotation

“I don’t agree with the word rest. We made a decision to change and look at other options, like we will for tomorrow. It’s not about resting. It’s about taking the right decisions that we think is better for the game.

“The game lasts 95 minutes, so we have to look at all the game and be ready to respond to all the questions posed in the game and by the opponent.

“That is for the starting 11, the bench, the squad – everybody has to be involved.”

On tactics

“This is what we have tried since the beginning. We’ve tried to build something that is versatile enough, adaptable enough, dynamic enough to adjust to all the opponents.

“It’s coming from everybody, especially from the players. The players give you the best answers, and if you are able to get the best out of each one of them in specific moments, the answers are there. It’s the players that give you the solutions.

“We expect it from them, because what we build are the standards, the shape, the organisation and the space for talent, for freedom, for unpredictability. We must keep on building.

“What I don’t agree with is that it’s only now. It’s been since the beginning, it’s been like that over and over again, always trying new things and always with the same purpose – to make us stronger.”

On his players becoming coaches

“I’m sure that one of them could be a very good manager. We go into coaching because we love the game, and as a football player if you love the game then it’s hard and difficult to get away from it.”
