Nuno: I Can’t Take Anything Away From My Boys

Although disappointed with the final day defeat to Sunderland, Nuno Espirito Santo insists the loss won’t take the gloss away from a fantastic season for Wolves.

Already promoted at champions, Wanderers were defeated in the Sunderland sun and finished the campaign on 99 points after 46 games.

Speaking post-match, Nuno brought attention to the whole season, rather than one afternoon.

“I can’t take anything away from my boys, they’ve been fantastic,” he said. “We don’t need to deeply analyse, we should do better but we did a fantastic job.

“The boys have worked really hard throughout the season and had fantastic moments, and we achieved what we wanted, we are champions and must be very proud.”

Nuno made changes to his side for the trip to the Stadium of Light and felt the intensity was lacking throughout the 90 minutes.

“It was to do with the intensity. The players tried hard but sometimes you have to be really fair to them, a lot of players have played 50 games this season so let’s be fair to each other.

“We got promoted a long time ago. Today we wanted to achieve a victory but it was not possible. Today wasn’t the best image but doesn’t take away from anything we did this season.

“Fortunately, we didn’t come here needing a result because it’s a very tough competition with a lot of games.”

However, their trip to Sunderland will be put to the back of Wolves minds on Monday, when the squad will celebrate with the city at the promotion party in Wolverhampton.

“We are looking forward to tomorrow to celebrate with all the people at the park and the dinner. It’s important for us to finish the season celebrating with our fans,” he added.
