Match Preview | Wolves v Sheffield Wednesday

Promotion and the Championship title may be wrapped up, but Nuno Espirito Santo will insist his players sign off from Molineux in style this weekend, prior to the Championship trophy being lifted.

Victory at Bolton Wanderers last weekend sealed top spot for Nuno’s men, who’ve showed their ruthless streak in the spring, taking 22 points from the previous 24 available. A club record points total of 104 is still available for Wolves, should they win their final two Championship fixtures. Unbeaten on home soil since January, three points against the Owls, and a 17th home win of the season, would be the perfect way to celebrate a memorable campaign at Molineux.

The Opposition

Wednesday arrive in the West Midlands certain of their Championship status, with little to play for in mid-table. A top half finish remains possible for the Owls, who’ve failed to live up to the heights of their previous two Play-Off campaigns. Jos Luhukay’s arrival in January has at least eradicated any relegation fears, which were lingering prior to his arrival. Now, with the pressure off, Wednesday are hitting form and recorded back-to-back wins over Hull City and Reading recently.

Around The Championship

The stakes are high in the Championship, with the battle for automatic promotion, a Play-Off place and survival all very much alive. Fulham’s pursuit of second place sees them face Sunderland on Friday evening, before rivals Cardiff City travel to Hull on Saturday. Both in the Play-Offs currently, Aston Villa face Derby County, while Middlesbrough also face a vital game against Millwall – both of whom hope to finish in the top six. At the other end of the table Burton Albion vs Bolton could go a long way to deciding relegation issues, with Barnsley playing Brentford at Oakwell.
