Jota and Ruben Neves were on the scoresheet as Nuno Espirito Santo's men turned in an impressive, controlled performance to put themselves within one further win of the Premier League.
Afterwards, Jota admitted that his goal - inside the first seven minutes - set the tone for the evening.
"When we score first everything is a bit easier for us," he said. "We know we have to start games well and we did that tonight, and fortunately I scored.
"We knew that we had to get back to winning ways at home, because we drew the last game here. I think it was a really good performance - probably one of our best at home during the season.
"The whole team played well - we know we have this quality and that we can produce performances like this."
While Jota's goal in itself was a moment of real quality - an excellent finish from Willy Boly's inch-perfect pass - it will be overshadowed by the jaw-dropping nature of Neves' strike. After teeing the ball up for himself, the midfielder unleashed an unstoppable, dipping volley straight into the top corner to secure the points, and his countryman Jota was quick to acknowledge the audacity of the goal.
When asked about Neves' goal inevitably grabbing the headlines, Jota joked: "It's unfair for me! But it was an unbelievable goal - I think that's going to be one of the best goals of the season in all competitions, anywhere in the world.
"Ruben has scored five or six goals this season and they've all been great goals, but this one was incredible."
The victory over the Rams saw Wolves establish an 11-point cushion at the top of the Championship table with four games left to play, and Nuno's side now know that - regardless of Saturday's results - victory over Birmingham at Molineux on Sunday would see them promoted.
Jota continued: "It's been a long journey and we have played a lot of games, but now we are close. It's our job to go out there and guarantee our goal, but we know it's also a derby game and we want to please our fans.
"Our fans - home and away - always support us and have been such an important factor for us. I'm sure that on Sunday the atmosphere will be like tonight or even better. We have to win to please them."
