A Strong Performance

Nuno Espirito Santo was pleased with the different aspects on their game his side showed during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Burton Albion.

Wolves claimed back-to-back victories in difficult conditions at Molineux, to surpass the 80-point mark going into the international break.

Having worked hard to gain an advantage, Wolves were able to enjoy their football after the break, which impressed Nuno.

“It was a good performance, they were two different halves, but two good halves,” said Nuno. “The first one we pressed really strong, had good possession and when the goals came they put us in control.

“We conceded a goal we shouldn’t, particularly at this moment of the game, we know how things can change. We acted good in the second-half, I was happy because I felt totally in control.

“I think the team knew we needed to go for the goals. At the same time, we had possession of the ball and created the spaces.

“It was a very good performance, so congratulations to the boys and congratulations to our fans, it was good listening to them singing and enjoying it, which is what it’s all about.”

Following Tuesday night’s Reading victory, Nuno challenged his side to become more consistent and was pleased with the response from his players.

“This is the consistency that this competition requires, we know when we don’t perform we need to bounce back immediately, we are able to do that.

“It shows character and we need to know every opponent requires our respect, and today we did it again.”

The victory was secured in tough conditions at Molineux, with the snow coming down in freezing temperatures, but Nuno was pleased with his side’s application.

“They were very difficult conditions, I think everyone inside Molineux felt that, but I think the players kept switched on during the game always, they were in control and I think they enjoyed it.”

A number of Nuno’s players will now depart for international duty and their manager knows the importance of next weekend, with the World Cup on the horizon.

“It means a lot that our players go away with their national teams, because a big event is coming up and you can’t take that away from their minds.

“They’ve done their task for now so can go and play for their country, but they know when they come back there’s hard work ahead. We don’t relax, we put in the hard work,” he added.
