We Always Want To Get Better

Conor Coady reiterated the squad’s desire for continual improvement when he spoke ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Bolton Wanderers.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men approach the game on the back of four consecutive league wins and, while admitting that the players were enjoying their football, Coady maintains that the hard work continues behind the scenes.

“It’s a great place to be at the minute. We’re playing some good football but we’ve not achieved anything yet,” he said.

“We need to be winning football matches and, at the minute, we’re doing that but we’ve got another tough one on Saturday.

“We always want to get better. I think every team in the Championship is the same, everyone’s trying to improve and get better, and we’re no different.

“We’re working on different things each week on the training pitch, we’re preparing for the games properly and getting ready for who we’re playing against.

“It’s not like we’ve not peaked, we just want to keep on getting better.

“It’s a football club that always wants to be on the move and we’re no different, we just need to keep on improving and keep getting better.

“As soon as the game finished on Wednesday night, we were looking at Bolton and it’s a simple as that.

“The games come thick and fast within this division and everybody knows that.

“It’s about us getting ready for whoever we’re playing against.

“Tomorrow it’s Bolton. They’ve got a really good team; we’ve looked at it today and looked at their strengths and weaknesses in different areas.

“We know how good of a run they’ve been on over the last couple of weeks so it’s a massive game for us.

“We want to go into the game playing our own way and hoping we can get a good result.”

The 24-year old, who has featured in midfield for the majority of his career, has been a key figure in Wolves’ back line so far this season.

And Coady accredits the team’s successful defensive performances to a high level of organisation in training and in matches.

He said: “Whoever comes in, they know their role and know their responsibilities in terms of what they want to do.

“There’s no secret to it, I just think it’s a lot of organisation. We’ve been doing it since the start of pre-season.

“Since the Head Coach came in, we’ve listened to him and tried to improve with him every single day on the training pitch.

“No matter who plays, everybody knows what they need to do to go forward.

“As long as we can keep defending properly it gives us a platform to go and win the game and that’s something we want to keep on working on.”

Coady’s central role in the rear guard has called on his own organisational skills -a side to the defender’s game that he particularly relishes.

“I love it,” he explained before adding: “I want to help this club, I love being here. It’s something that I feel is a big part of my game.

“If I can do that, it’s a big bonus for myself and hopefully I can help the boys to do that going forward.

“There are a lot of things I’d like to add to my game, I’m nowhere near a perfect player or a perfect defender.

“But as long as I’m defending properly then I’m doing my job to help the boys.”
