Tuesday’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Premier League leaders Manchester City in which Wolves became the first team to stop them scoring this season added some more national attention to the focus already on Molineux after the team’s table-topping start to the season.
But Nuno is at pains to point out that any increased attention or expectation levels comes from outside of the club only – and that inside no one is getting remotely carried away.
“It is too early to be thinking about anything too far away,” says Nuno.
“What we have done so far doesn’t say anything.
“We have got to get to this same level of performance each day and each game.
“That is what will get you where you want to go as a team, to be able to fight and compete every time you go out on the pitch.
“Getting carried away is not a feeling that exists inside Compton.
“Maybe it can happen outside, but every time we come through the gates here we know we have to work hard.
“We had 120 minutes on Tuesday night but everybody is ok.
“We have taken on all the positives from the game – the individual performances and the boys back from injury able to come through the physical challenges of the game.
“It was a good night – the result was not there but the performance was fantastic.
“As soon as that final whistle goes though, the focus is on the next game, which for us is QPR.
“We have prepared and the boys are working well and are totally focused.
“There are different circumstances with the QPR game but inside we know what we have to do to keep on going.”
And Nuno, who has defender Willy Boly back available for selection, is expecting a tough test against a QPR side which has proved difficult to beat in recent weeks, despite a seven-game winless run.
“We have looked at QPR, and of the last seven games they have drawn five,” added the Head Coach.
“They are a well organised team, difficult to beat, and it is a tough environment to go and play.
“We know that and we are ready for it.
“We have to deal with all the circumstances of our opponents, but the first step is to look at us.
“Do our own tasks and look at how we want to compete in the game and go for it.
“Our focus and mentality is the main thing at the moment – it is about looking at our opponents but also focusing on how we are going to do in the game.”
