We Let Ourselves Down

Two goals from Anthony Knockaert saw the league leaders to a comfortable victory which all but confirms their promotion to the Premier League.

Lambert attributed the defeat to not being clinical in both boxes and he says that his side could have been much stronger defensively.

He said, “Up until bout half an hour, we were still well in the game but the goal before half time was a catalyst and it was a really poor goal to concede.

“They’re clinical and they played really well.

“The goal when we are playing fairly well was a blow, we could have done a lot better defensively. the second goal, we were attacking and we got hit on the counter - we should have done better, we should have done better in both boxes.

“For the first goal, there was nothing much in the game, we started well and we looked really lively and bright.

“We let ourselves down.

“It’s a goalkeeper’s long kick, we’ve missed the header and then  Kortney’s (Hause) misjudged it - the lad cuts inside and shoots and scores.

“They're a good team and they make it difficult when they get people behind the ball.

“In both boxes, I don't think we were clinical enough and I didn't think we were strong enough at the back - that’s probably been the story of the whole season and we have to rectify that for next season.”

Lambert was full of praise for Brighton and he says they deserve to be at the top of the league.

“Brighton have got a lot of experience and know-how in their team and are very streetwise,” he continued.

“They have that right the way through their team and it is important.

“They're a really good side - they're well drilled and well organised, the front to are a handful as well.

“The amount of goals that the front lads have scored is a lot - they are a good side yeah.

“We were a little bit better than last week, up until the goal I didn't think that there was much in it at all - I thought we were in the game and we looked pretty lively but then the goal drops us and we didn't do enough at either end of the pitch.”

Wolves now have a quick turn around as they travel to Leeds United on Easter Monday.

The Wolves manager is relishing the trip to Elland Road and he says that his side will have to combat the crowd.

“Leeds away is a great game - a great crowd, a great place to go and play so we’re looking forward to going there and we’ll go and try to win,” he said.

“We’re going to have to combat the crowd but it’s a great place to go and play.

“The game comes onto you pretty quickly, we’ll look at Helder (Costa) and see how he progresses through and one or two lads who haven't been starting might get a go as well.”
