Prince Oniangue believes he has much more to come as he settles into English football and aims to increase his impact.
The affable midfielder believes his influence so far has been at 60 to 70 per cent, and that with more hard work, and continuing to adapt, his impact will grow when Wolves return to action after the international break.
Oniangue acknowledges that the Sky Bet Championship is very different to what he has been used to, but he is relishing the challenge, and enjoying life at Molineux.
“I am enjoying it so far and I am happy,” he says.
“I have now moved into a house as well which helps me settle.
“It is a nice club here with good team-mates and staff and a good direction.
“Sometimes there needs to be patience with a new player but I feel settled in now.
“I know what my level is and I still think I have to reach that.
“I know I will do that and hopefully that will be good for the team.
“The league is very intense here.
“The ball is up and down the pitch.
“In the first division in France there is maybe more time on the ball and more time to play football – the pace is not as intense as it is here.
“I like it though and feel I am adapting to it.
“I need to learn quickly and there is no problem.
“I am confident I have more to offer.
“At the moment I think I have shown 60 to 70 per cent of my ability with getting used to everything.
“And I know there is more to come from me.
“When I do that I feel I will do even better.”
Oniangue continued: “It is normal to take time for everyone get used to each other and there may be some good results and not good.
“It is the same as anything in life that the more you get to know each other the better it is.
“So I am not worried.
“We have come in from different places and we are all getting to know how we play on the pitch and what the coach wants us to do.
“Everybody is working very hard to get towards that and we can only improve.”
Oniangue has already notched two goals for Wolves so far, and has featured in several impressive performances including being part of a midfield trio at Newcastle that also featured Dave Edwards and Romain Saiss.
“I enjoyed the Newcastle game in particular when we all played really well,” he added.
“The stadium and the atmosphere created a big game feel and we responded to it.
“We need to repeat that performance more often.
“It is not easy because we did so much running that game and need to keep doing it.
“And other teams are also looking at us and knowing how we play and are trying to stop us.
“I believe in the vision here, I believe in the staff, and I am confident about what is to come.
“I am pleased to get two goals but I want to get more of those as well.
“I do a lot of work on making sure I stay calm in the penalty area and of anticipating the situations that may come.
“It is difficult to score goals and so before a match I am always preparing and thinking about what I need to do if I get the ball in a particular position.
“In this team with how we can play I think there will be opportunities to score goals and I have to make sure I take them.
“And I hope my next goal will to be win the match.
“So far we have had one draw and one defeat – I hope my next one is a winning goal.”
Wolves are training this week during the international break in readiness for a return to Championship action on Saturday week at Aston Villa (5.30pm).
Oniangue believes Wolves have the potential to cause problems to their hosts at Villa Park, providing they could avoid the concession of early goals in the last two games against Wigan and Norwich.
“When we play again it will be another big match and a derby game as well,” he says.
“That is one to look forward to.
“We will work hard to be able to get everybody together and the right dynamic to win.
“We have to be solid and not concede goals early on.
“When we lose a goal at the beginning of the match it changes the condition and the game is not the same.
“We need to be solid, and if we do that, then we can show the quality in the team.
“Our strikers can score goals, midfielders can score goals like me and Edwards have done.
“But first we need to have that solid base, and if we do that I think we will get goals and the right results going through October and November.”
