Wolves Disability FC awards night

After another unforgettable season for Wolves Disability FC, players from the under-12, under-16s and adult teams were invited to Molineux for their annual awards night.

The teams were joined by 240 people including friends, family and Wolves Foundation staff and volunteers, highlighting the success and support for all teams.

Awards were given out across each group from the players, coaches and supporters, with the overall atmosphere was one of celebrating the participation of everyone involved.

There were a few special awards handed out, including the Will Payne Memorial Award which was presented in memory of former Disability player Will who passed away last year by his father Sam.

Thomas, a member of the adult team, was presented with a special one-off award in recognition of his support and dedication. The award was handed to him by Harry from the under-16s and will now become an annual highlight of the Disability FC season.

The evening also shared some of the teams highlights of the season, including the under-16s winning a cup competition, as well as the two half time fixtures against Burnley and Aston Villa.

The under-16 fixture against Villa, was one of the most thrilling nights of the season, with the match ending with player Hugh scoring a dramatic late winner in the pouring rain under the lights of Molineux.

The match also formed part of this season’s new partnership with Alexion UK, helping to raise awareness of Rare Disease Day. The Disability squad and wider Foundation greatly value Alexion’s support, alongside that of existing partner Nuffield UK, as it helps create opportunities and make a lasting difference to a wide range of participants.

Senior disability sport officer Gavin Jones, who oversees the Disability Squad programme, said: “This is an event we have organised for several years now, and it continues to get bigger and better.

“It is a celebration of the achievements of the season, not just in terms of results and performances but the inclusion of being able to offer our participants the opportunity to be part of a team with training and matches.”
