A panel consisting of Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Paul Ince, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett, Barry Fry and Rachel Yankey, who’ve managed over 6,500 matches combined, deemed Wolves the most deserving of the award.
With ten minutes remaining at Villa Park, Wolves trailed 2-0 and the task looked an uphill one for Bruno Lage’s players, but once Romain Saiss finished off an impressive team move, the pendulum had swung.
Conor Coady bundled home the equaliser with five minutes left, but Wolves weren’t finished, and when Adama Traore was tripped five minutes into injury time, Ruben Neves hit home a deflected free-kick to spark pandemonium in the away end.
Now, after analysing all of last week’s action, the panel decided that Wolves were deserved winners and Lage and his coaching staff received a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and the LMA Performance of the Week trophy on Friday.
It’s the first time Wolves have won the LMA Performance of the Week Award since October 2019, when Traore's double inspired a stunning win at champions Manchester City.
