Neto | 'The game’s not about possession, it’s about opportunities'

Pedro Neto believes Wolves’ strongest qualities shone through at Chelsea on Wednesday evening and he was satisfied with the point they came away with.

Wolves returned to their compact best in West London, proving too tough for Chelsea to break down at Stamford Bridge, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remained a threat on the break, like so often in recent years. The best chance of the game fell to Neto himself, as the Portuguese clipped the woodwork with a scooped effort, and while frustrated not to find the back of the net, the point provides something to build on, according to Neto.

On a battling performance

“We did a great job. We came here, we improved. I think we did a very good game defensively and I think the draw is fair, but we had two or three good opportunities to score and if we got out of here with three points, I wouldn’t have been surprised, but it’s a good point and we continue to improve.”

On staying compact all game

“It’s difficult but it’s one of the things that’s our strong point – defend well, stay compact, and then go to the attack. We had less possession, but the game’s not about the possession, it’s about the opportunities and scoring goals.

“We always want to win, we are looking to do it, but it was not today. We focus on the next one, we go again, and we look to win.”

On a much-needed clean sheet

“It was very important. It’s the strongest thing in our team, the way we defend and the way we look for the speed up front after. We did a great game and had opportunities to score, we had to do it, but we will improve again and focus on the next one to win.

"We didn’t keep a clean sheet for a long time. It was a difficult game, against a very good team, but we are happy with the performance.”

On the arrival of Joes

“He’s a player with quality, a player with different qualities to the ones we have here. We need a guy like him because he’s a good guy, he scores goals, he’s a very good player, so it’s what we need, someone to help the team and we’re very happy to have him with us.

“We needed a player in the box, he smells the goals, so we are happy to have him and I think he will be very helpful to our team.”
