Dendoncker | 'Time to stick together'

Leander Dendoncker insists the Wolves group must stick together now more than ever, after defeat in the Black Country derby on Saturday.

Wolves have now gone six matches without a victory, despite leading 2-1 at the break against the Baggies, but Dendoncker wasn’t looking for excuses when speaking post-match. Togetherness has been a theme of Wolves’ success under Nuno Espirito Santo and his Belgian midfielder now believes the whole squad must rally and pull through this poor run of form as one.

On what’s changed in recent weeks

“If you look at the ranking, we are not where we were the past two seasons. This is a difficult period for us, with some tough games coming up, so it’s up to us to stick together more than ever and get the winning mentality back.”

On the squad boasting quality still

“We have to stick together. If you look at our team, we have great players, but now we need our winning mentality back and that’s more important than the quality we have. With the spirit, which I’m sure we’ll find again, and we’ll be back to winning games again.”

On what went wrong on Saturday

“We’ve been unlucky with the goals we conceded, two times a penalty and one throw in which ended with a goal after. From that point of view, I think we’ve been unlucky, but I don’t think there’s excuses.

“We have to be demanding of ourselves, we have to finish our actions better. We had quite a lot of opportunities, which we didn’t finish, and we can’t win the game and they did. Apart from the two penalties and the header, I don’t think they were very dangerous.”
