Bennett add perspective to Everton loss

Ryan Bennett has put Wolves’ defeat to Everton in context after a positive start to the season.

Wolves were beaten 3-2 at Goodison Park after an uncharacteristic defensive performance, but the loss was their first in 10 2019/20 matches in all competitions. Bennett spoke after the reverse on Merseyside and, while knowing Wolves will work to remove the errors over the international weekend, was keen to look at the positives.

On the defeat

“It was a difficult one. I don’t think we played particularly well. It’s caught up with us a little bit, it was 2-1 in 13 minutes which is never ideal in a game we know is going to be difficult. We got it back to 2-2 and unfortunately for us let it slip, it’s a tough one to take and we know what we need to work on to go again.

“Little bits here and there could have been different, but unfortunately again for us, it hasn’t gone the way we wanted it to. There were a couple of mistakes in there as well that led to the goals.

“That’s going to happen, we’ve had chances, they’ve made some good saves and made some good blocks, but on a whole, it wasn’t our best day today and we know that, we’ll be working hard to put it right.”

On the start as a whole

“We’ve had a good start to the season, with all the games we’ve played, and it’s been really tough. That’s our first defeat since we’ve been back, since the start of pre-season, so we don’t want to dwell on things too much, we know it wasn’t our best performance today, but we’ll be back.

“It’s time for us to sit back, not relax because we’ll be training hard, but work on things that maybe the manager and the staff have seen, to make sure we’re ready when for when we come back because we’ve got another busy, busy schedule.”

On learning from mistakes

“On a team perspective, every man in the dressing room there has been unbelievable this season with the work and what we’ve been doing and the way we’re buying into things, and we know it’s going to stand us in good stead, we just need to keep believing and keep working.

“We know it’s important to get that first win, it’s what we’re searching for now, obviously we’ve had three draws in this league, which sometimes isn’t good enough and we know we need to go out there and get our first win and we’ll be working hard to make sure we get it.”
