Neves: We worked on corner routine

Ruben Neves admits Wolves had been working on his outrageous long-range effort in training after discovering a weakness in Manchester United’s defending from set-pieces.

The midfielder struck ten minutes into the second-half to bring Wolves level with United at Molineux, aiming a looping 22-yard effort over the outstretched arms of David De Gea after a well-worked corner routine involving Joao Moutinho. Rui Patricio then saved a Paul Pogba penalty to maintain Wolves’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

On draw with United

“We had to adjust ourselves because Man United started the game really well, the pressed us high up and we felt it was difficult to control the game in the first-half.

“In the second-half we adjusted ourselves and took some risks, and we did well.

“It was really hard because they’re a really good team. We knew this before, but it was a great effort from our team.

“I’m really happy with all the team because we all did a great job, mainly in the second-half.”

On his stunning goal

“It was a good goal and for all the team we deserve it. We work on that during the week, fortunately I scored, and I’m really happy for the goal and the result as we drew against a big team.

“We always look at the opponent during the week and we saw they had some difficulties outside the area from corners and fortunately we took advantage of it.”

On waiting for VAR decision

“It was horrible, honestly, but this is football now. You have to be patient and fortunately this time they gave us a goal. Of course, you get to celebrate it twice, but the other way around is really better!

“We have to adjust; the technology is good for some and not so good for others, but this is football now.”

On Patricio’s penalty save

“He’s a great goalkeeper, he has shown us that already, and fortunately we have him with us.”

On building on result

“We always try to win our games, it doesn’t matter the opponent or the stadium, but we’re still growing this season, and we still have a lot of work to do.”
