Moutinho: Wolves deserve Wembley semi-final spot

Joao Moutinho believes Wolves thoroughly deserve their place in the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup following Saturday night’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Molineux.

The midfielder, who completed seven 'key passes' on Saturday - the same as the whole United team combined - was instrumental in the first of Wolves’ goals, making a darting run into the box to lay up Raul Jimenez to open the scoring with just 20 minutes of the quarter-final remaining.

Following the match, Moutinho praised the ‘amazing’ performance from the team on the pitch as well as the incredible atmosphere generated by the Molineux supporters off it.

On making the semi-final

“What a win. It’s amazing and I think we played very well, with the support of all of the stadium. We tried to do our best, and we won.

“For the players, for the club and for all of the supporters, it’s a very big win for all of us, and I’m very pleased with the result.”

On beating United at Molineux

“This season we have already shown what we can do. Sometimes things don’t go like we would want, but today we got a very good result against a big team.

“Manchester United are a very good team, but I think we controlled the game, we played a better second-half. They’re a very good team, they played well, but we deserved this win.

“They’re aiming for the Champions League title, they are fighting for the top four, but we did a very good job and what we did on the pitch was amazing.”

On playing for Wolves at Wembley

“Being in the semi-final at Wembley sounds very good and we’re going to do what we have done so far in all of our matches – try to win, go to the final, and win.

“But we know that it’s going to be a tough semi-final.”

On the Molineux support

“Not only today, but all of the matches here this season, we have amazing support and we need to say thank you to all of the people who gave their support to us.

“For the next game at home, let’s do it all again, and we’ll try to win.”
