Second goal crucial, says Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo felt Wolves’ second goal at Goodison Park was vital in achieving a victory and performance against Everton which made him proud.

Raul Jimenez’s header restored Wolves’ lead over Everton on the stroke of half-time and put Nuno’s side in the ascendency going into the second period. Wolves struck once more after the break to put the seal on a third consecutive Premier League win and cap another brilliant away performance.

On the crucial second goal

“We achieved the goal (through Neves), then Everton had a fantastic goal. Then we had to do it again and we were lucky we achieved a second goal just before half time, and that put us on the front foot. A goal is always hard to achieve, but if you achieve it in the right moment it can be very hard for your opponent.”

On the performance

“We are proud of what we did today. It’s a very tough stadium to come and play the way we played. In the first-half we played better, we had a lot of control in good situations and in the second half both teams were organised.

“Of course, we were in front of the score and Everton going direct requires a lot of shape, being compact and organised, and we achieved it. We didn’t allow many chances to Everton.

“I know it’s very difficult to play here, with the atmosphere. Everton are a very good team with a good manager, but one moment can change everything. The boys were very organised, they stayed in shape and controlled the game, and we had a lot of chances.”

On set piece goals

“We work on our set pieces for every opponent. It’s a moment of the game which requires a lot of hard work, defensively and offensively. We invest time into set pieces.”

On Dendoncker’s goal

“I’m very happy for him, he’s working very hard. He had a very good chance in the first half. He helped the team which is the most important thing.”

On Neves injury

“He had to go out, he was in pain and was not able to continue, so let’s assess him now. It was a kick.”
