Nuno wants step-by-step improvement from team

Nuno Espirito Santo is calling on Wolves supporters to continue to give his players the backing they have received all season when Chelsea are the visitors to Molineux this evening.

The head coach believes the support fans have given his side during his time at the club has a large impact on the performances on the pitch.

Nuno said: “It’s massive what they’ve been giving to us and they will continue, because everybody knows the impact the noise in Molineux has on the team and it’s been there since last season.

“For us it’s very important that our fans support the team like they always do, and it is going to be a very large crowd at Molineux for sure and an enjoyable game.”

Chelsea arrive at Wolves for this evening's 7.45pm kick-off on the back of nine Premier League wins out of their 14 matches this campaign, and Nuno understands the threat posed by Maurizio Sarri’s men, despite his side claiming draws against the fellow title chasers they have faced so far this season.

“They are a very good team,” he added. “I think everybody knows and can see how they play really good football and it’s going to be a big challenge for us, no doubts about it.

“They have fantastic players, a very good manager who has a very good idea of football, so it’s going to be a big challenge for us, but we approach always the same, no matter what the opponent.

“You cannot choose your opponent, all you can do is prepare for them. I will not say it has anything to do with ‘suit’, it has to do is the day of the game. It doesn’t mean that because they’re a big club that they suit you, you have to prepare for every opponent.”

After a positive start to their first campaign back in the Premier League after six seasons away from the top-flight, Wolves have gone six games without a victory.

But Nuno said his team are approaching the current situation game by game and aim to become a stronger side.

“We started well and had a good block of games, with mistakes, but still growing and still building, and then a moment when results don’t come, still with mistakes, but what is important is how we approach this situation.

“The approach cannot change because we believe in the things that we do. We have to keep on improving and building, and what I believe is that we are going to come stronger, because every chance is a moment to grow and improve.

“What we cannot be is obsessed about ‘now let’s get a big performance’ which will get us out of trouble, we have to go step by step, improve game by game.

“Let’s try and improve it and fix the other things and go step by step, keep building and keep on working hard.

“It’s important to know how you’re going to play, what you want to do, and try to do it. Looking at their game and putting our ideas on the pitch and be stronger.”
