Permanent Deal For Jota Agreed

Wolves can confirm that following the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, they will be exercising their option to ensure Diogo Jota’s loan move from Atletico Madrid is to be made permanent this summer.

The forward joined Wolves on a season-long loan from the La Liga side in July last year, joining up with his former coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, ahead of the current Sky Bet Championship campaign.

At just 21-years of age, Jota has already made over 100 career appearances, including Champions League outings during his time with Porto and international call-ups across a number of Portugal age brackets.

The attacker has been an influential part of Wolves’ season so far, as 2017/18’s joint-top scorer, he has netted 12 goals in 30 appearances since his arrival at Molineux.

Along with his teammates, Jota has helped to put Wolves in a strong position at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table as the club chases promotion to the Premier League.

Wolves’ Executive Chairman, Jeff Shi, expressed his delight at being able to announce our intention to secure permanent terms for the talented forward.

He said: “Diogo has been an important player for Wolves this year and his abilities are clear for everybody to see.

“As a management group, our aim is to provide the Head Coach with a playing squad that gives him the best possible chance to succeed and I believe Diogo is certainly a player that does that, and will continue to do that beyond this season. Whilst the agreement won’t be fully confirmed until the 1st July, by making this statement of our intent, it again allows us to be as open and honest with the fans as we can be with regards to how we wish to take the club and the squad forward.

“Of course, in addition to Diogo, we have a number of other players who are also part of the playing squad under loan agreements, and we will continue to make assessments of the whole playing group as we progress through the season. By moving to confirm terms with Diogo, and the signing of Helder Costa last winter, it shows that we can provide a great environment for loan players to thrive and develop in Wolves, and we are sure that this will continue with other players who have come in and successfully committed themselves to the club.

On the confirmation of Diogo’s future, Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell added “I am thrilled that Diogo has seen enough of the Club and the city over the last six months to want to make this his permanent home. He was a player that was well known to us prior to the summer and so we were obviously delighted to be able to sign him for the season.  To secure his services on a permanent basis is a huge coup for the Club and I have no doubt that he will help us to achieve our goals both now and in the future”
