After an impressive win at Preston North End on Saturday, attention now turns to the Carabao Cup and Sheffield Wednesday for the Old Gold on Tuesday evening.

Cesar Peixoto is expected to select from the same squad as Saturday when he picks his group for the Yorkshire trip. Keiran Trippier and Yerson Mosquera are out for the foreseeable future, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Rafiki Said are getting closer, but still not ready. The head coach selected a strong 11 in round one against Port Vale, but the positioning of Tuesday’s tie may tempt him to tinker. Nasser Djiga and Jackson Tchatchoua replaced their injured teammates impressively at the weekend, while Adam Armstrong netted just minutes after his arrival. New signing Jordan James made his debut as a cameo and could be handed his first start in an old gold shirt. David Moller Wolfe, Boubacar Traore and Tommy Doyle also came on at Deepdale and could be in line to start, should Peixoto tweak his side.
New loan signing from Liverpool Kieran Morrison is in line to make his first start for the Owls, having made a bright cameo off the bench last time out against Bradford City. Ricardo Santo also came on against the Bantams and may start, after manager Henrik Pedersen hinted at making changes. Reece James returned to the club this week, having left Rotherham United in the spring, and could be given an opportunity against the Old Gold. Striker George Brown remains out injured, while new signing Tyler Onyango looks set to miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury he picked up on his debut.

The form guide
Saturday’s win at Preston was a boost for Peixoto, who can now count four points from six as a positive start in the Championship. Fer Lopez was in terrific form as his two goals, either side of a smart Armstrong finish, secured the points in Lancashire. Attention turns to the Carabao Cup next, and Wolves are there thanks to a round one victory over Port Vale. The cup tie kicked off the season and was won by half-time after Armstrong, Andre and Lopez all netted in a comfortable 3-0 win.
The Owls have already beaten Championship opposition in this competition, having defeated Bolton Wanderers in round one – Jamal Lowe with the winner that day. In League One they have three points from six. Callum Slattery and Lowe were on target in an opening day win over Leyton Orient, but on Friday evening Bradford won by a goal to nil at Hillsborough.
The past with Wednesday
Wolves’ 2018/19 season was much lauded for their Premier League exploits, but early in that campaign Wolves beat Sheffield Wednesday at this very stage of the Carabao Cup at Hillsborough. On a night when Leander Dendoncker, Elliot Watt and Pedro Goncalves made their Wolves debuts, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won it in the second half. Leo Bonatini opened the scoring, before Helder Costa wrapped up the 2-0 win from the spot with five minutes remaining. It was Leicester City at Molineux up next for Wolves in the competition.
