Big Match Revisited heads to 2009 promotion campaign

Big Match Revisited returns for a second episode on Monday night on the official Wolves YouTube channel.

Following a well-received first episode, Mikey Burrows and Chris Iwelumo are back for the second instalment of Wolves TV’s latest feature, where they reminisce on some of the club’s greatest games with the help of the players who featured on the day.

The latest episode covers a match Lumes played a starring role in, as Wolves dismantled Nottingham Forest at Molineux to indicate their promotion push of 2008/09 was the real deal.

The 5-1 win was only the fourth Championship game of the season, but the emphatic nature of the performance and scoreline, against a promotion rival, signalled Mick McCarthy was on to something special, and on Monday supporters can watch the full 90 minutes back.

They will do so with the insight of seven heroes from that day, as Lumes welcomes his former teammates Richard Stearman, Kevin Foley, Karl Henry, David Jones, Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis on to the show to share their memories from a big win at Molineux.

Lumes was on target on the day, scoring the fourth goal, and enjoyed reflecting on a big win: “It was an absolute statement. There was a long way to go but putting Forest to the sword the way that we did was nice.

“It was before the international break as well, you go away for ten days and think about it – it’s always nice to have that period after a win. That was a real statement to say we meant business.”

Henry, who captained Wolves to the Premier League that season, echoed Lumes’ sentiments, saying: “I think we all started to believe after this game. I remember going in at half-time and we were all just ‘wow, that was unbelievable’. They didn’t know what had hit them, they’d come to Molineux, probably expecting to do well that season themselves.

“Often you see teams with a mixture on the pitch, but maybe the dynamics are not right, but Mick had put it all together and we were seeing the fruits of that. When you’ve worked on this through pre-season and start the season well, the belief just grows – you start the momentum and it’s difficult to stop it.”

Big Match Revisited will be powered by Blyth Group, an industry-leading construction company driving investment and infrastructure across the UK.

In the build-up to the show’s launch, wolves.co.uk will be bringing you snippets of what to expect from Jones, Stearman and Kightly, before the must-see 90-minute show premieres at 8pm on Monday on Wolves’ YouTube channel, before being available in the archive at tv.wolves.co.uk.
