WW150 x Black History Month | A short film

A unique short film has been released to mark Wolves’ Black History Month fixture this evening and continue the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The Wolves Studios production fuses the Old Gold’s past and present, with the club’s pioneering Black players of yesteryear coming together for a celebration of Wolves’ 150th anniversary and proud history of Black heritage, alongside current club captain Toti.

At the Junction on an autumn afternoon in Wolverhampton, Toti joined the club’s first Black player Don Gardner and first home-grown Black player Joe Jackson, along with the club’s first Black goalscorer Bob Hazell and the legendary figure of George Berry – a 1980 League Cup winner with the Old Gold.

Carl Ikeme, Scott Golbourne and Elliott Bennett provided a bridge in eras, and Toti’s appearance showed the current squad’s willingness to immerse themselves in the club’s history during this anniversary season.

Members of the Golden Black supporters group added to the occasion, as did Caribbean food served and music, courtesy of Exodus Movement, while Wolves Academy youngster Ricky Jackson – grandson of Joe – added a contemporary feel to the day.

The film begins the club’s Black History Month celebrations, with a further production to be released later this month, featuring interviews with the key personal present on the day, touching on their own personal stories. Stay tuned to Wolves' official channels as the celebrations continue this October.
