Young patients receiving treatment at New Cross Hospital are continuing to benefit from the support of Wolves Lottery, with specially donated gaming consoles now installed within the newly transformed children’s oncology rooms.
The consoles were officially opened by Alison Bryen from Wolves Lottery, as part of the latest stage of a project which has already seen the treatment rooms transformed through colourful artwork created by local artist Mr Murals.
The wider refurbishment was funded through support generated by Wolves Lottery players, working in partnership with Your Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity, with the aim of creating a brighter, calmer and more welcoming environment for children receiving oncology treatment.
The gaming equipment will give children something familiar and enjoyable to focus on during what can often be long periods of treatment, adding another element of comfort and distraction within the rooms.
Senior Sister Aimee Hashim said: “This has been lovely for our patients – the rooms just feel so bright and more welcoming. Children can be here for the majority of the day having treatment so having a better environment is important. Thank you to all Wolves Lottery players.”
The rooms had previously been transformed through immersive artwork by Mr Murals, with the designs helping to create more engaging surroundings for children and their families during hospital visits. The original project was developed with input from patients and staff, with the intention of reducing anxiety and making the treatment environment feel less clinical.
Amanda Winwood, charity development manager, added: “Seeing the transformation of our oncology treatment rooms has been incredibly uplifting. This project shows what can be achieved when our community comes together with a shared purpose.
“The partnership between Wolves Lottery and Your RWTC, along with the talented Mr Murals, has allowed us to create spaces that feel brighter, calmer and far more supportive for our patients. This collaboration has made a meaningful and lasting difference for those we care for.”
The project forms part of Wolves Lottery’s wider commitment to supporting local causes across Wolverhampton and the surrounding area, with income generated through Lottery membership helping fund projects delivered by Wolves Foundation and local charity partners.

For children who may be spending much of their day receiving treatment, anything that can make that time a little more comfortable, familiar or enjoyable is incredibly worthwhile.
“The transformation of the rooms has already made such a visible difference, and the gaming consoles are another way of making the environment more welcoming for young patients and their families. We’re extremely proud that Wolves Lottery players have helped make this possible.”
