Wolves are inviting fans to take part in a special training session – the latest positive movement in the club's ongoing wellbeing and mental health work.
The session will take place at Molineux on Friday 8th May at 6pm and will give supporters training on practical ways to support fellow fans, challenge stigma, and help make Molineux a place where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
The training is being delivered jointly by the Wolves safeguarding team, Wolves Foundation and partners Samaritans, and will touch on the Premier League funded ‘Together Against Suicide’ matchday support programme.
How fans can support the project
1. Help destigmatise suicide | Talking about suicide does not make it more likely to happen, but silence and shame can stop people asking for help. By learning how to talk openly, calmly, and compassionately about mental health, you can play a huge part in reducing stigma and helping others feel safe to speak.
2. Look out for fellow fans | You don’t need to be a professional to make a difference – sometimes noticing when someone seems quieter, withdrawn, or not themselves can open the door to support. Small actions make a difference – this might be a check in, a warm greeting or a moment of kindness. This can change someone’s day and, in some cases, their life.
3. Use small talk as a lifeline | Small talk can feel ordinary, but it has extraordinary power. A simple conversation can make someone feel connected, noticed, and less alone. At Wolves, we’re encouraging everyone to use the Black Country phrase: “Ow am ya?”. It’s a small sentence with big impact.
4. Help create a supportive matchday environment | By understanding the signs that someone might be struggling and knowing how to start a supportive conversation, fans can help make matchdays even safer and more welcoming. The ‘Together Against Suicide’ initiative is about exactly that: fans helping fans, with trained staff and volunteers on hand as well.
What fans will get from the training:
- Guidance from safeguarding professionals
- Insight from Samaritans on listening skills and supportive conversations
- Practical tips on wellbeing, mental health, and suicide awareness
- Confidence to look out for your mates, family, and fellow supporters
- An understanding of our wider community work
