Matt Doherty and Dexter Lembikisa are among those who will depart Wolves this summer after the club confirmed its retained list following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Following a six-month spell at Molineux, Angel Gomes has left Wolves and returned to parent club Marseille, while Ladislav Krejci – who spent last season on loan from Spanish side Girona – will become a permanent member of Rob Edwards’ squad on 15th June when the international transfer window opens.
Lembikisa has spent the last nine years in gold and black having joined Wolves at the age of 13 and rose through the system to make his senior debut in November 2022 against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.
The Jamaican international – who experienced loan spells with Rotherham United, Heart of Midlothian, Yverdon-Sport, Barnsley and Lincoln City – leaves Wolves having appeared another three times for the first-team during the 2022/23 season.
Wolves’ technical director, Matt Jackson, said: “Dexter had an excellent spell early in his loan journey when he went to Rotherham and then up to Hearts, and we thought that would be a real springboard for him, but for numerous reasons, including injuries at crucial times in his development, particular when he went out to Switzerland, it’s not worked out for him.
“As a club, we have a duty to the boys to give them the best pathway into a professional football career, and we all feel that him leaving now and starting his journey somewhere else will be the best thing for both the club and for Dexter.
“But he’s been a joy to work with during our time together at Wolves. He’s super professional, always has a smile on his face, he’s great around the group, and he leaves the football club with our very best wishes, and I hope he has a long and fruitful career.”
As previously announced, legendary defender Doherty is also set to leave the club during this month with his current contract coming to an end. The Irishman’s incredible Wolves career has seen him rack up almost 400 appearances across two spells at Molineux.
After initially joining the Old Gold as an 18-year-old in 2010, Doherty spent 10 years in gold and black, before rejoining the club in 2023 and now moves on as Wolves’ 16th highest appearance maker of all-time.
Lembikisa and Doherty are joined by seven members of Wolves Academy on the departure list, as Ty Barnett, Harvey Griffiths, Arthur Nasta, Bjorn Marwa, David Osifo, Fabian Salmon and Jake Wilcox seek fresh challenges away from the club, although an offer has been made to youth prospect Conor McLeod.
Jackson added: “At under-21 level, you can only keep players in that situation for so long, and Ty and Harvey have got to an age where they are affecting our squad composition, with over-21s counting towards squad make-up.
“They’re both great pros, but at this point, we have to assess that situation on how likely they are to make that step up to the first-team group here, and that’s unfortunately a natural part of the football process.
“For Arthur, goalkeeper progression is quite unique, simply because of the amount of playing opportunities they have. We’re also very lucky to have three excellent developing goalkeepers in our academy, who have already had senior experience, in Jimmy [Storer], Lewys [Benjamin] and Josh Gracey.
“We have a responsibility to create a pathway for our young players to get game time, and Arthur’s been excellent this season, playing senior football in non-league with Hornchurch, and with that, he’s been able to have the opportunity to prove himself there and build a career.
“But I want to wish the academy players who are moving on this summer the best of luck for their futures, because they’re all super talented, and I know they will find their level in football by leaving us.”
