To mark 100 years since the birth of legendary former Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward, his son is giving back to the people of Wolverhampton.
In memory of his father, Jonathan and the Hayward family are continuing Sir Jack’s legacy for generosity, with the businessman known for giving to local causes with his own money.
Now, on 14th June 2023 – what would have been Sir Jack’s 100th birthday – Jonathan has made a generous donation to the Wolves Foundation, to fund 100 pairs of school shoes and trainers for children in the local community of Wolverhampton.
Sir Jack was renowned for wearing brown desert boots for several decades, including on his most famous afternoon in 2003, as he led Wolves to Premier League promotion at the Millennium Stadium.
The image of Sir Jack, with both thumbs up on the pitch, is etched into the club’s history and provided the inspiration for his statue – a project which son Jonathan was instrumental in – which is proudly positioned behind the Sir Jack Hayward Stand outside Molineux.
The statue was made reality by one of Britain’s foremost figurative sculptors James Butler, who sadly passed away last year. James was also responsible for the statues of Billy Wright and Stan Cullis around Molineux, allowing his legacy to remain.
Since his father’s passing in 2015, Jonathan has remained a regular attendee at Wolves fixtures and is well-liked amongst the club’s supporters and has now made the most generous of gestures to the community.
Jonathan said: “I wanted to find a way of commemorating Sir Jack's 100th birthday which would also benefit the people in Wolverhampton, and I feel this was a nice way to continue his legacy of supporting the community.”
